Short Films with FX
PORTAL JUMP!
Short with FX
FX stands for 'effects'!

Or you might come across: SFX (for Special Effects') VFX which equally stands for 'Visual Effects'

Special effects on film create the illusion that the impossible becomes possible!

Here I disappear from our world into another via a 'whirling vortex portal'. Effects like this are added during 'editing', when you stitch the different scenes together to create your movie. However, the actor has to 'act' as if the portal is really there, but the Editor has to create the illusion that it is, using computer generated SFX, which you'll find on most computers and animating, movie making software.

Have a go! It's great fun!
T-Rex on Brook Cliff Top
3D Computer Generated Model
Test for a local production company who was looking for an animation of a island dinosaur on top of Brook Beach to open a documentary about the Isle of Wight.

This was one of the 1st 'mock ups' for the producer to see how it could look. A T-rex is used, as they are easier to generate quickly but our island dinosaurs are unique to our island, so it would mean that the animation design would take longer to create. Once the 'go ahead' was given our design team would have created our unique island dinosaur to open the documentary...

Due to Brexit and Covid the documentary has been put on hold, but we're ready to take part in this exciting project once it's back up and running!

PLANE, TRAIN, CRANE
In this animation there is multiple movement actions in the back ground so keep a eye out for those.

Desert Chess
DESERT CHESS
This is how a game of chess went quickly out of control one wet Sunday afternoon, between myself and my youngest cousin 'Josh' (8yrs).
Out came the mobile phone camera, nan's kitchen table became a mini film studio and before you know it we were engaged in a modern take on Chess Warfare and Stop Start Animation all rolled into one...Fab!

Throw in some music and see how the atmosphere changes the mood of the movie - Josh was well impressed with his older cousin and Josh's mini-movie was a hit with friends and family. Win Win!

A table, mobile phone and free animation software is all you need for a portable Animation Studio of your own...oh and lots of imagination...

A Snow Time Rescue
March 2018
In this animation a roller Tractor and a AA Land Rover responds to the aid of a snowed in Police lorry in the perilous situation of A Snow Time Rescue!

This short animation was filmed on a very cold day, so cold in fact there was snow! It was the 18th March 2018 and there was snow, I grabbed my freeze-proof time-laps camera a tripod & a couple of trucks set the camera on the roof of our car as that's where the snow was deepest and that's how A Snow Time Rescue was made, along with getting quite could indeed!

Have ago at creating your own animation whether it snowing or not!

x2 RAW and Edited Films: OCT 2018 + 06 DEC 2019
This animation is a RAW section of animation on a blue screen background before background removal, this clip is for the Great Dinosaur Eggsplorer which is an animation film. The Great Dinosaur Eggsplorer animation was originally created for the reopening of a Dinosaur Museum on the Isle of Wight in Spring 2019, for an open day gathering of young Dinosaur Explorers who helped create this animation after seeing Jurassic World 2. They thought, rightly, that they could make a better film...using 'an egg' to link all the individual animations together, a story was hatched...

Blob the Clayman + Tiny Tom
07MAY 2021
This is my first animation ever made!
Blob the Clayman & Tiny Tom was created in 2015 when I was on a animation course called 'Explore Animation' by
Aardman Studios on FutureLearn!

Watch the perspective of the 'ball' and 'Tiny Tom' : to create the illusion of 'distance' , Tiny Tom is significantly smaller, BUT if I used the same size of 'ball', the ball would then be bigger than Tiny Tom once it reached him; so I had to make a series of smaller balls, and rotate them, taking lots of images to ensure the viewer only realised, at the end when Bob goes to pick Tiny Tom up, that Tom is in fact very tiny, not just far, far away!

I know the film's a bit wobbly, after all it was my first animation, and I was only 12!
Hit and Run Clay Animation
In this very short animation using the Aardman Animate IT Lite app, I was testing quick animated movement to achieve a smooth end video result.
This animation was made in 31st July 2018 as part of learning how the Animate IT Lite app worked. Have a go at creating your own fun animations!
Horrible Histories Films
DICK TURPIN
November 2016 - January 2017
This 4 month project, filmed during November 2016 and published in January 2017, contains 4 of our favourite songs from the brilliant Horrible Histories Series - all our historical barminess is entirely thanks to Terry Deary and the HH team: RAF Pilots Dick Turpin Vikings Literally Richard 3rd Along with some Outtakes!
Looking back at this project it is amazing to see how far we've come, as back then, we made the rooky mistake of recording all the songs from memory (without any music to aid timing) and then overlaid/dubbed the song over the top... this caused the music to be slightly out of sync in some places!
