Shells

This week we practiced using a variety of techniques such as:

  •  Line and Wash - is where the object (in this case the shells) outlines + features are drawn in pen before being lightly washed with paint  so that the pen lines are still visible.

  • Drybrush - is used on dry paper with a clean dry brush containing a small amount of paint on the tips of it's bristles, used to create grasses and reeds.

  • Sponges - are perfect for quickly creating vegetation such as tree/bush leaves, just cover a sponge with paint and then dab onto paper first, before painting on the branches and tree trunk with a brush afterwards.

  • Toothbrush - is used to create sand by flicking paint off the bristles of the toothbrush, on to the paper.

  • Salt - is used to create texture, when rock salt is sprinkled onto wet paint it absorbs the colour - when the paint has dried, remove the salt to uncover a dappled effect perfect for water or pebbles.

  • Wax - is used to preserve the white paper as it prohibits the water colour paint from staining the paper so leaves the wax area clear.

  •

  • Clingfilm - is used to create texture, when placed on wet paint and allowed to dry, once removed it creates a frosted mesh + patterns.
